Art Show at Libraries

Jefferson County Beach Watchers have mounted art shows at both the Jefferson County Library and the Port Townsend Library. The shows feature art created by students from Chimacum and Port Townsend schools.

The art was created by students to show how plastic water bottles are affecting our planet - especially the ocean. They made the art after they participated in an interactive presentation about bottled water.
To create their art, students learned about:
• the dramatic increase in consumption of single-use bottled water bottles
• the impacts of the resulting waste
• plastic in the marine environment
• low recycling rates of beverage containers
• cost and safety of bottled water compared to tap water
• how plastic waste harms animals and the environment.

This project was developed by WSU Jefferson County Beach Watchers in partnership with the Jefferson County Public Health Department with advice from the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. The project was funded in part by the Department of Ecology and Jefferson County Public Works. The art was created by students to show how plastic water bottles are affecting our planet - especially the ocean. They made the art after they participated in an interactive presentation about bottled water.

The art will hang in both libraries all summer as part of the Make A Splash summer reading program. We have LOTS more art to share. If you have a blank wall in a public location and would like to hang some art please contact Darcy at 379-5610.
